Decking the Halls

I’ve run across a lot of ideas for Christmas decorations that are new,  trendy, simple and elegant and I am always pulled towards the more moody, cozy, scenes. I’m not a fan of bright colors or trendy colors mixed with bright whites and silver. Sometimes it does it for me, but most of the time it just doesn’t feel enough Christmas for me, if you know what I mean. It’s something that’s pretty and all but do I feel like snuggling in and watching classic Christmas flicks surrounded by this? Probably not. Case in point:

Or this crazy color-scheme:

Or this disaster:

I love scenes that are warm and make you want to snuggle up on the couch and bask in front of a fireplace. A little far-fetched for most of us, but I’m pretty drawn to anything that keeps me in my pjs and snuggled up. Usually color schemes I’m drawn to are deep reds/burgundies, deep greens, golds, dashes of silver.

Biltmore Estates

Any glittery lights mixed with gold also make a room feel warmer and instantly feel like the holiday season.

What type of room makes the holiday season come alive for you? Is it a room, or just being surrounded by family and friends?

Sidebar:

Yesterday was an important step in creating equal rights for LGBT citizens in the state of Illinois. The House of Representatives passed a bill 61-52 in favor of legalizing civil unions. The next step is for the bill to move to the state Senate where its also expected to pass, and then on to Governor Quinn’s desk for approval. Gov. Quinn is expected to sign off and make civil unions legal for LGBT citizens in the state of Illinois. This is great news! And an amazing step forward in equal rights for LGBT citizens in the midwest!!

Also, today is World AIDS Day. Did you know…

  • Over a million people in the US today are living with HIV and/or AIDS
  • 1 in 5 Americans living with HIV don’t know they have it
  • Since 1995, the President of the United States has made an official proclamation on World AIDS Day. Governments of other nations have followed suit and issued similar announcements
  • Greater Than AIDS is a new national movement to respond to the AIDS crisis in the US

Visit www.greaterthan.org/Walgreens for more information on how Walgreens is helping this cause.
